The Puck Building turned red, white and blue last night for the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service’s Election Night Live Returns Watching Party, co-hosted by the Wagner administration and the Wagner Policy Alliance student group. Plasma televisions were positioned around the room so partygoers could watch the returns from different television stations. Students, alumni and faculty alike joined in the merrymaking as they waited for results, asking trivia questions about elections, taking pictures with cut-out figures of Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam and creating customized political buttons. Those of age could order candidate-themed mixed drinks such as the “Obamarama” or the “Palinator” from the open bar.
“We’re actually having to turn away people who didn’t R.S.V.P. because there are so many people here,” said Carmela Resuma, student co-chair of the Wagner Policy Alliance.
Robyn Stein, senior director of external affairs, stressed that the election is of particular importance to Wagner, which specializes in public service studies.
“We wanted to give all of our students, alumni and faculty the opportunity to be together on this momentous evening because this is going to be the most important election of our lives,” Stein said. “We all care so deeply about issues like housing, education and the economy, so to experience this together means a lot to us.”
