Graduating seniors pledged to create a fund to help students who need financial aid to study abroad as their Senior Class Legacy, according to an e-mail sent out to seniors from the Senior Class Legacy committee yesterday.

The committee, chaired by Stern senior and Student Council President Javier Martinez and sponsored by the Office of Global Studies, is asking each senior to donate $20 over four years to their individual school as their parting gift to NYU.

Martinez said that the fund will mainly help pay for needy students' daily life abroad.
"Sometimes you just don't have that extra spending money for museums and things like that - and that's the purpose of this gift," he said.

President Sexton challenged the seniors to raise $25,000 to benefit study abroad programs for the third annual legacy and said he will match any figure raised.

Last year's class dedicated their legacy to the renovation of the Bobst B-Level Lounge, which, together with President Sexton's matching gift, amounted to $13,000. €¢
