The NYU Sustainability Task Force has begun accepting applications for the second annual "Green Grants" program, which offered a total of $115,000 to 15 projects last year.

The best project submissions are those that will generate original research, said Jeremy Friedman, a project administrator for the Sustainability Task Force Project.

Last year Charles Strom, director of laboratories for the chemistry department, received a $4,500 grant to purchase a water-conserving pump for experiments.

All applicants can submit a letter of intent by Feb. 4, and while the letter is not required, the subcommittee said it will allow them to provide applicants with feedback.

Friedman said he's looking for originality and innovation.

"I'd love to see some more projects on water issues, especially conservation," he said.
