NYU School of Law is ranked third in the nation on Vault.com's first survey of graduate employability.
Vault polled nearly 400 individuals representing over 100 law firms who were directly involved in the hiring and evaluation process of recent law school graduates, according to its website. Vault is an online career resource for career information that calls itself "the most trusted name in career information."
Vault's senior law editor Brian Dalton said the survey will help recent law school graduates by giving them an idea of how employers consider applicants based on where they received their degrees.
"No one else really takes the employers' perspective," Dalton said.
Vault has never conducted a survey soley focused on law school graduates' employability, which distinguishes these rankings from others available to students, Dalton added.
"[We're] getting our toe in the water, so to speak," Dalton said.
While the prominent U.S. News and World Report rankings take into account the percentage of law school graduates employed after nine months, employment is not the sole rating factor.
NYU Law is ranked fourth in the 2008 U.S. News and World Report rankings.
"NYU is a very highly regarded law school by any ranking," Dalton said. "It's always around the top five and has a very good reputation for prepping people for practice in corporate law firms."
Stanford Law School took Vault's number one slot, while The University of Michigan Law School came in at number two. Harvard and Columbia ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.
NYU Law student Molly Wallace said the school has really prepared her for interviews with employers, and even provided a few.
"A lot of the people I have interviewed with have gone to NYU and we've had some of the same professors, even," she said. "I think it really did help me to get jobs."
