Regarding "By 5-Vote Margin, Ban on Coke to Stay in Effect" (4/21/08):

On behalf of Law Students for Economic Justice, we wish to commend the University Senate for voting to maintain the ban on selling Coca-Cola products on campus.

Coke's request that NYU lift the ban demonstrates that the ban applies pressure on Coke to change. The vote sends Coke a message that if they want the university's business, they should allow a truly independent investigation into the assassinations of Colombian union activists and respect the rights of those who work in and live near Coke's facilities.
